Xi Chen to Present at GTCbio’s 3rd Assay Development Conference, June 5-6

Dr. Xi Chen, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Davis will present at GTCbio’s 3rd Assay Development & Screening Technologies Conference on June 5-6, 2008 in San Francisco, CA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Apr 01, 2008 – Dr.  Xi Chen, Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Davis will present at GTCbio’s 3rd Assay Development & Screening Technologies Conference on June 5-6, 2008 in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Chen will speak on combinatorial chemoenzymatic synthesis and high-throughput screening of carbohydrates.

Although the vital roles of carbohydrates in biomolecular recognition are well documented, limited information is available on how the structures of carbohydrates (e.g. the terminal monosaccharide structures, glycosyl linkages, and the underlying glycan structures) affect their binding to carbohydrate-recognizing proteins and influence related downstream biological processes. A novel combinatorial chemoenzymatic method has been developed for highly efficient synthesis of biotinylated oligosaccharides in 96-well plates. By transferring the reaction mixtures to Neutravidin-coated plates and assaying for the yields of enzymatic reactions using lectins binding to glycosyltransferase acceptors, the biotinylated glycosylated products can be directly used, without purification, for high-throughput screening to quickly identify the ligand specificity of product-binding proteins. This method is very efficient in producing a large library of oligosaccharides for direct structure-function studies.

GTCbio's 3rd Assay Development and Screening Technologies conference will provide attendees with critical information to utilize in the discovery and development of assays, while keeping them informed about the latest screening technologies for both high-throughput screening and high-content screening. Topics being covered include cell based assays, high throughput screening, high content screening, in vitro assays and screening, novel assay and screening technologies, and target validation.
