PRLog (Press Release) -

Seattle, WA: Doxology first noticed the use of their arrangement of Eleanor Rigby, (performed by David Cook on American Idol’s March 11th episode) without their knowledge or consent, over 2 weeks ago (press release dated March 14, 2007). It was Doxology speaking out that brought attention to American Idol, mainly David Cook, using musical arrangements without giving credit to the arranger. Many people will remember American Idol faced the exact same situation in season 5 with now popular rocker Chris Daughtry. In the wake of this incident, Chris Cornell (member of legendary Seattle band Soundgarden)
has spoken out (David Cook performed a Chris Cornell cover of Billy Jean on American Idol – March 25, 2008), saying, “I don't think it should be an issue to cover a cover, as long as it's clear who the creator and/or interpreter of that piece is” (Entertainment Weekly Online Interview – March 27, 2008). Chris Cornell makes a great point, if an arrangement is used that is not yours, it should be clear who the arranger is. However, 2 weeks after the incident, American Idol and/or David Cook have yet to release a statement about the use of Doxology’s version of Eleanor Rigby. They have neither acknowledged it nor apologized. How is it that the band responsible for bringing this outright music piracy to light is still left in the dark, unmentioned and unaccredited?
· Luke McPherson, Doxology front man, spoke out on how the band feels about David Cook using their arrangement:
"Through out this whole experience, we've maintained the same position; we're avid fans of the show, and of David Cook. We're flattered that our arrangement was used, and excited that it's become such a big success, David did an awesome job with it. The band and I were so excited to hear the judges and fans after-comments. We worked so hard on that arrangement;
we are pumped everyone digs it so much! That all said, we do feel that David and American Idol need to acknowledge that the arrangement used on the March 11th performance was in fact, Doxology’s. Right now, Doxology management is working with American Idol and we’re looking forward to an amicable resolution”.
