Hessney Auction to Offer Book of Mormon 1830 and Mormon Letter 1839 on Missouri Mormon Expulsion

PRLog (Press Release) – Mar 30, 2008 – Hessney Auction Company of Geneva , NY will be offering the Book of Mormon 1830 and a Mormon Letter dated 1839 on the Expulsion of Mormons from Missouri at an auction April 9th. Books and maps from an important local family will be included as well as Antiques, Art, Ephemera, Jewelry, Coins, Glassware, Silver and more.
 The Book of Mormon 1830 and the Mormon letter 1839 will be sold at 12 noon. Photos of these can be seen on the Hessney Auction website www.hessney.com
A Mitchell's 1848 New Universal Atlas- Empires, Kingdoms, States & Republics will also be featured in the auction.
Part of the transcription of the Mormon 1839 letter is as follows:
The facts are at August Election an Inflammatory Speech was made in Davis County against the Saints voting to awe them away from the polls. Some fault being found with the speech by a very weak man of the Church one of the mob fell to beating him another of the Church said don’t fight and stepped up to past him. A number more fell furiously at him then others and so on a fight , clubs were accidentally  and were common stock the more for oratory and the church to get away the weak brother which they did____ left the mob to carry off their dirks and their broken heads. The mob then went on vengeance in all places and went through this State telling anything that would raise excitement against the Mormons and began to gather mobs from considerable distance so that farmers were obliged to gather into the cities. General Atchison ordered a few companies of militia who examined the Church very strictly and found them all in order and ordered the mob top disperse which they did from that place after stealing and eating many of our cattle a drove that we put on the prairie. But soon they gathered again and drove off a small branch of the Church from Duett about 90 miles down from Davis County. Mostly orders from the offices of the Government to let the mob and Mormons fight it out. This was that hard to have to have the protection of the State taken from us as we were peaceable citizens and given up to a numerous and mercy less mob to fight or parish . The Church thought best in this dilemma to be ready first and out like men for Christ. Said if his Kingdom were of this world or my servants would fight where fore while the mob are making ready the Saints as they could themselves would be there and took a cannon at one place and caused the mob to disperse. About 75 Danites attacked supposed to be 100 and scant time and drove others and killed 26 and _____ 3 men and took 42 horses & saddles, and parties scoured around the County of Davis and took considerable powder and rifles deposited to kill Mormons with and took considerable other stuff. The mob had burned many log houses. For the Church now the Dannites began the practice of burning 22 log houses to break some of their _____ places of theirs. The mobs _______ they had burned hundreds of our houses before this  the mob was now beaten and late in October and the Church at best this Governor Boggs could not endure for soon he breaks his truce cruel as it was saying let the mob & Mormons fight when it was his duty to protect them against the mob, thus he wickedly breaks his own truce and orders 10,000 Militia, 7,000 of whom get to the far west a great company not with swords and staffs but cannon, rifles and swords to take 1000 of the Saints who would not fight against the State Authority with orders to drive us out of the State or exterminate us. A flag was sent by the Church which was shot but some preliminary were sent from the militia which was accepted and Seven of the heads of the Church went down to adjust the difficulties but in place of any adjustment they were made prisoners and a vote called to see if they should be shot immediately and nearly carried but a manly minority of opposed so forcibly that the majority dare not do it, but they carried them away from county to county telling the church that they would see them no more and that the _____ prophet Jo would deceive us no more. They took the guns and swords from the Church and compelled them to give deeds of trust to defray the losses of the war. They compelled every family to leave Davis County within 3 weeks. Cattle, hogs , cornfields suffered without money and the Church to leave the state before planting time which we must do for the mob is continually howling round blaspheming in a horrid manner that we shall all be killed off if we do not leave soon while the militia were training far west a mob of about 200 or 300 came in on the East side of Caldwell County and cruelly massacred 17 persons and a great hall has been holden in Livingston County in honor of that enterprise we are all in bondage and 14 of the heads of the church in prisons and none says deliver they robbed us and none says restore,  fulfilling  exactly a prophesy in the 42 chapter of Isaiah . So I contemplate no deliverance from any earthly power for they have imprisoned the prophets, cast out the Saints as evil and _____ us without cause they have rejected the Gospel and they that have born glad tidings to them perhaps this church may be rejected of many nations before the _____ cut off or being ripe in inequity  we are conscious of having broken no law of the State but the sectarians and the desperados on whom they have influence are in a great rage because their craft is in danger there was never but one priesthood on the Earth at one time and first in Heaven is the head of that and reveals himself and his law to whom he will and when he will and it is always _____ the present crafts. Who have not the power of revelation for they are established by man such as Mahamet. The pope of Rome, John Knox who came off from the pope. Mr. Wesley who came from Knox xc to hundreds many sects arose among the ____ pretending to follow Moses, they were in a rage when Christ came and they were cut off the people were wroth with Lot he was led out and they destroyed , Noah preached righteousness 12 years they mocked him he was saved and they destroyed . So it will be at Christs coming in our days or this generation as it was with Lot & Noah or in their days. See Luke Chapter from 20 verse perhaps you may find it in the Book of Mormon. More plain our tribulations have use great in the scripture ____ after tribulation cometh the blessings when he comes whose is in his hand he will clean his floor and burn up the Chaff and gather the wheat and the wheat is those who obey the Gospel that Paul preached which is now preached by this Church and it never was preached in its fullness by any witchcraft but by the holy priesthood of Jesus Christ. My desire is that all my friends might be baptized by the holy priesthood for the remission of sins. Then they would be as little children, then receive the Holy Gost by the ordinance Laying on Hands and live righteously to the end of life the Celestial Glory is Sure and tribulations are but little lost. I expect you did not get your paper the Church was in such trouble at Kirkland their consciousness tried them hard at that home this Church is to be tried as ____many times some loss every time. Several gave out at Kirtland and some have now but Isaiah says the pure in heart shall return and come to Zion with songs of everlasting joy on their heads. My sons took the disporting of their goods joyfully Chapman and Chapman’s wife. Also we have the state to keep the law that we may return with joy where the wheat is gathered the elders will go forth to gather  the wheat from the tares or separate them so that may be ready and the bundle of tares be burned. The new crafts will bend as they can and the Holy Priesthood will not be idle in pulling as much wheat out of them as they can in this the Day of God’s Power.
