Follow on Google News | Sarasota Opera Apprentice Artists to Perform in AprilIn April, Sarasota Opera Apprentice Artists will take center stage at the Opera House when they move into principal solo roles for two engaging evenings of fully staged operatic excerpts.
By: Sarasota Opera Apprentice Artists in Opera Scenes will be presented on Tuesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 10 at 8 p.m. Scenes not performed in English will have English surtitles. The April 8 performance will include selections from The Ballad of Baby Doe by Douglas Moore, The Barber of Seville by Gioacchino Rossini, Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi, The Girl of the Golden West and La bohéme by Giacomo Puccini, Werther by Jules Massenet and Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten. On April 10, performances will include selections from Cendrillion by Jules Massenet, The Marriage of Figaro by W. A. Mozart, La Vida Breve by Manuel de Falla, Hansel and Gretel by Engelbert Humperdink, La traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, and The Crucible by Robert Ward. The singers in the Apprentice Artists Program undergo an intense period of professional training and performance. The Sarasota Opera Program, recognized as one of the finest in the nation, provides participants with intensive music, dramatic and language coaching; master classes; and the opportunity to perform small roles on the main stage, as well as performing leading roles in the scenes programs. The artists also serve as chorus for the main stage productions, which this year are Verdi’s Rigoletto, Puccini’s La rondine, Verdi’s I due Foscari, and Mozart’s Così fan tutte.
