"We don't want the average fan to be priced out" says Chris Travis, VP Business Development of EVENTHOTELROOMS.com. "Every other site is asking fans to pay $600 a night, how does the average fan afford it?"
The Final Four marks the end of the 2008 season and more fans than ever are expected to flock to San Antonio, host of this years "Superbowl of Basketball" However this year marks the first time that a fan will be able to purchase a hotel room within 5 miles of the event for less than $200 a night.
"The fans won't know if their teams are going until 6 days prior" Travis says. "By that time every property is sold out and room rates are unatainable for the college student looking for the ultimate roadtrip"
Indeed a search of popular Expedia.com shows the closest property to be 13 miles away, with room rates starting at $339 a night. "Our goal is to keep the Final Four pure and attainable for all fans, students & alumni. While the superbowl is 90% corporate, the Final Four is still a fans event"
Travis must be right. With two weeks to go EVENTHOTELROOMS.com has already sold over 50% of their inventory and calls and emails continue to stream in from around the country. "People are obviously embracing the concept, we have brought this event back to the average person"
