Rhode Island Teacher Brings Back Yesteryear In Two New Pop Culture Novels

Take a walk down pop culture's memory lane. See how much you remember about the old classic tv shows, movies and songs from the good ol' days!

March 24, 2008 - PRLog -- Pawtucket, RI - John E. Carr, teacher turned author has just released not one, but two brand new novels titled “Don’t Touch That Dial!” along with “And Now, A Word From Our Sponsor” . which are satirical walks down entertainment's Memory Lane.

As a 1984 graduate of The University of Rhode Island obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism, John became an active member of the Rhode Island Consortium of Writing and a Fellow of the National Writing Project.  Prior to his teaching career he worked as a copy editor at the Providence Journal and The Pawtucket Times.

But his true calling and destiny was that of teacher.  His love of children, coupled with his commitment to quality education (with humor), brought John the admiration and respect from his students, which he fondly refers to as “Mr. Carr’s Stars”.

However, John’s self-proclaimed addiction to Pop Culture spills abundantly over into his personal time, as he declares he can’t seem to get enough of the old-time classics from television, radio, theater and the movies, thus his penning these retro literary pieces.

Carr states, “Pop culture holds the magic to reinvent itself and continues to find new audiences who clamor for its hypnotic retro sounds and images. Watching the evolution of our world through the eyes of moviemakers, the melodies of songwriters and the words of newscasters for example, gave birth to a cultural propaganda, providing those in control of the horizontal and the vertical, the power of influence.”

Most recently, in 2007, John founded CARR’S UPPER CASE MANUSCRIPTS, a writing, editing, publishing and tutorial service for students and writers of all ages and abilities with the intention of guiding and honing their literary skills.

“There is no question that literature has been a key element in molding our world. But what I love the most is looking back at our cultural days gone by,  sometimes with great humor and satire, which is exactly what prompted me to pen “Don’t Touch That Dial!” along with “An Now, A Word From Our Sponsor.”
