Wade Day at USA International Speedway FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRLog (Press Release) –
Mar 22, 2008 – (BRISTOL, TN) - Wade Day and the Bristol-based Highlands Motorsports team know that success in the Hooters Pro Cup Series relies on never giving up. This was never more evident than in the season opener in Lakeland, Florida on March 15th.
“We were good off the truck and knew we would be fast,” said Day. “Many people say that it doesn’t matter how fast you are in practice, but it gave us a lot of confidence for the race.” Day backed up a third-quickest practice session run with the fourth-quickest time during Awesome Awnings Pole Qualifying to earn a second row starting position for the Sears Auto Center 200. The green flag dropped and the Elizabethton, TN, driver settled into fourth place before trouble struck on lap 59. “The car got really tight, a couple cars got past, and I knew there was trouble. The right front went flat as I went down the front straight.” Wade slowed entering turn one, keeping the car off the wall. The Highlands Motorsports crew replaced the right side rubber, but two laps were lost. The 96s was still fast and Wade never lost sight of the leader. He was able to get one lap back when a caution flew at lap 107 and the other lap back on the next caution at lap 124. Day climbed as high as 14th,with the cars of J.P. Morgan, John Townley and Tom Hessert in his sights, but just didn’t have enough left to get past them before the checkered flag fell. “Considering what happened, I feel pretty good about our finish. I know we have a good car for South Georgia.” The next event for the Highlands Motorsports team will be on Saturday, March 29 at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Cecil, Ga., for the running of the BFGoodrichTires.com 250 Presented by K&N Filters.
