Mar 19, 2008 – Kimberley Consolidated Mining’s (KCM) CEO Hein le Riche announced that the company sold a 46 carat blue-white diamond for $28,000 per carat, reaching a total price of $1.28 million.
The stone was recovered at the company’s Bo-Karoo alluvial mine in South Africa’s Northern Cape.
Earlier this month Riche stated that in the past 2 years KCM and its subsidiaries have produced over 12,000 carats, garnering a selling price of over R120 million.
In February alone the company reported production in excess of 1,000 carats at the Bo-Karoo and Taung operations. Generated income came to some R10 million.
