To celebrate the merger, NRB Convention attendees received free copies of Dr. Kenneth Hill’s Assault on Liberty from IRN USA Radio News executives. Hill was recently a guest on one of IRN’s flagship programs, News and Views. A confrontational show hosted by the only on-air father and son team – Dr. Bates and Chuck Bates – the program focuses on economics, politics, and religion, and their affects on culture.
“Our whole mission is to raise up wisdom in a generation that lacks wisdom,” says Dr. Bates. “It’s an age of disinformation by osmosis and design; most journalists simply don’t have a clue, so audiences are not getting the truth from the current uninformed, controlled media who perpetrate a kind of intellectual incest on listeners.”
Marlin Maddoux – who pioneered conservative talk radio in 1972 with Point of View out of Dallas – founded USA to fulfill the need for a national news service for radio stations not served by major networks. According to Nielsen Media Research, the Bates and Maddoux family networks’ merger has created one of the largest news networks in the country, with 2500+ AM/FM affiliate stations and over two hundred and fifty years of broadcast news experience.
IRN USA Radio News offers all the programming previously available on both networks. In addition to several former USA staff, IRN USA Radio News anchors continue to report the news from a lengthy roster of longstanding popular shows, including flagship programs such as Point of View. Hosted by Kerby Anderson and Carmen Pate, the show defends a biblical worldview, and proclaims Godly solutions for America’s problems.
“We have seen a lot of networks become tabloid news rather than hard-hitting news,” says Bates. “At IRN USA Radio News you’re going to hear news that will make a difference. If you have real knowledge, then you have an understanding of what’s going on. Only from there can you assess how things will impact your everyday life.”
At IRN USA Radio News, Maddoux’s sons are following in their father’s footsteps. Mark Maddoux is vice-president of finance; Tim Maddoux is vice-president of operations; and David Maddoux is vice-president and chief technology officer. Chuck Bates is the executive vice-president and news director.
“This is a family operation, rather than a firm controlled by Wall Street,” says Bates. “All of our people are cross-trained and carry full journalist credentials.
