World Gemological Institute (WGI) and Swiss Gemological Institute (SSEF) have initiated a collaboration program with the aim of enhancing the understanding of diamond treatments and detection methods.
In order to acquire advanced knowledge of the latest findings in the area of diamond treatment detection, WGI staff members visited the SSEF in Basel.
Among the reviewed technologies were advanced spectroscopic methods and laser induced photoluminescence, FTIR and UV/VIS spectroscopic methods.
Yinon Feldheim, CEO of WGI, had commented, "This initiative is very important to us. With great appreciation we start the international research cooperation with leading gemological research centers like SSEF. The market is constantly looking at gemological institutions to support the trade in handling the issue of lab grown and treated diamonds. We are planning to dedicate the major portion of our resources to provide the consumers and the trade with tools and methods to better understand enhancements and treatments."
