Mar 14, 2008 – The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television is a Canadian non-profit organization created in 1979 to recognize over 4,000 Canadian film industry and television industry professionals.
The mandate of the Academy is:
1. To honour outstanding achievements
2. To heighten public awareness and increase audience attendance and appreciation of Canadian film and television productions
3. To provide critically needed high-quality professional development programs, conferences and publications
The Academy’s national awards programs include the Genie Awards, Gemini Awards and Prix Gémeaux, honouring Canada’s best in the film and television industries. The Gemini Awards also include several special awards given out for various reasons such as lifetime achievement. Quebec holds its own counterpart of the Geminis, Les Prix Gémeaux.
