Three iUniverse titles, The Marrying Kind by Heather Conrad, The Watering of Stones by Whalen Colter Elmore and Cows and Cats Eating Cabbages by Jeff Schilling received excellent reviews in the March 2008 issue of the Kirkus Discoveries e-newsletter.

In Cows and Cats Eating Cabbages, Jeff Schilling pens the story of a high school senior who tries to redefine the image of an outsider but instead finds his world collapsing around him. The Kirkus Discoveries review says, “That most primal of coming-of-age narratives — cool kid gives high-school nerd a makeover — gets a fresh, smart reworking in this hilarious bildungsroman.”

Heather Conrad’s The Marrying Kind follows five women friends from college to the present. Referring to the book as “Sex in the City in the ‘70s and beyond,” Kirkus Discoveries also said, “there are enough sweet moments and solid set pieces throughout the book to make it an enjoyable.”

The Watering of Stones comes from Whalen Colter Elmore. This historical piece of fiction features four generations of a family swept up by the currents of a changing America. According to the Kirkus Discoveries Review, the book is, “An achingly and artfully rendered book about hard lives, many miseries and all-too-rare lambent moments.”

The Kirkus Discoveries monthly e-newsletter showcases the best books reviewed during the past month. The newsletter is sent to a targeted base of subscribers, including agents, editors, librarians and individuals looking to acquire the print and film rights to books and unpublished manuscripts. Books reviewed by Kirkus Discoveries can be traditionally published, self-published, published via print-on-demand technology or not previously published at all.
