In Cows and Cats Eating Cabbages, Jeff Schilling pens the story of a high school senior who tries to redefine the image of an outsider but instead finds his world collapsing around him. Heather Conrad’s The Marrying Kind follows five women friends from college to the present. Referring to the book as “Sex in the City in the ‘70s and beyond,” Kirkus Discoveries also said, “there are enough sweet moments and solid set pieces throughout the book to make it an enjoyable.”
The Watering of Stones comes from Whalen Colter Elmore. This historical piece of fiction features four generations of a family swept up by the currents of a changing America. According to the Kirkus Discoveries Review, the book is, “An achingly and artfully rendered book about hard lives, many miseries and all-too-rare lambent moments.”
