TSRHC Announces “Making A Thumb” Educational Video for Hand Surgeons

The Charles E. Seay, Jr. Hand Center at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is proud to present “Making a Thumb,” an educational video for hand surgeons, patients and their families focusing on pollicization.

PRLog (Press Release)Mar 14, 2008 – “Making a Thumb” takes a fresh look at pollicization, reconstruction of the thumb by transposition of the index finger. This proven hand procedure transforms the lives of those born with an underdeveloped thumb or without a thumb.

The video features classic, as well as never-before-seen medical illustrations by the father of modern pollicization, Dr. J. William Littler, and an in-depth look into the international history of the surgery. In the video, world-renowned pediatric hand surgeons (http://www.tsrhc.org/default.asp?contentID=28), Dr. Peter R Carter, TSRHC hand surgeon, and Dr. Marybeth Ezaki, director of the Charles E. Seay, Jr. Hand Center, demonstrate surgical techniques that explain this complex procedure to educate both surgeons and patient families.
