Rooflifters Keeps Sports Authority In The Game With Vertical Expansion Project

DALLAS, TX – ROOFLIFTERS (http://www.rooflifters.com), an innovative company that rejuvenates older commercial buildings by raising their roofs for vertical expansion, today announced that they have begun a new roof lifting project at the Caruth Plaza Shopping Center in Dallas along with local general contractor, SLS Johnson.  The roof lifting process will add approximately 112,000 usable cubic feet to the property.  The actual lift is scheduled to take place on March 18 and 19.

Sports Authority, Inc. recently leased from Caruth Partners, Ltd., a 22,500 square foot adjacent section of the Mall (located at 9100 N. Central Expressway in Dallas) but required a significant increase of the existing space’s ceiling height from 13’ to 18’ in order to accommodate their expansion.

“We’re offering companies a quick end-to-end solution for expanding vertical space at a fraction of the cost of demolition and reconstruction,” said Marty Shiff, CEO of ROOFLIFTERS.  “Additionally and perhaps most notably, this is a green process since we re-use 99% of the building’s original materials.”

ROOFLIFTERS’ technology works by placing their patented hydraulic system at strategic locations underneath the main structural beams of a roof. When the hydraulic lifting posts are in place, the columns, all services, and other infrastructure are severed.  The posts then hydraulically lift the entire roof of the building at the rate of 6’-12’ inches per hour. Once the roof reaches the desired new height, the structure’s existing walls are extended upward to enclose the building. The roof is then re-attached to the walls, columns are extended, and mechanical and electrical services are re-connected.

“The process of lifting an existing portion of the roof at our current location in order to meet our retail requirements is far more efficient than alternative solutions,” said George Palmer, Director of Remodels, at Sports Authority, Inc.  “By increasing the clear height in this building we’re saved the logistical hassles and costly downtime of relocating.”

“Our patented and proven technology has lifted more than 6 million square feet of roofs in the US and Canada,” added Shiff. “We are poised to rejuvenate older, low clear height buildings into newer, more modern facilities across North America.”
