Stopping Smoking in Spain

March 13, 2008 - PRLog -- Five years ago my wife and I moved from Northampton to southern Spain. As therapists we had decided to establish a clinic with the intention of helping the thousands of ex-pats living there to overcome a range of problems, one of which was giving up smoking, addiction therapy being one of our specialities.

Whilst we continue treating residents, the big surprise for us has been the ever-increasing number of Brits who now fly over for treatment each week. Some come for the weekend, others incorporate a mid-week break, a few who are in a real hurry somehow manage to fly in and out of Malaga in a day.

The treatment method we use is quite unusual, but certainly not unique. Like other therapists, we have invested time reviewing the mainstream methods and techniques available and the recent advances in addiction therapy. The result was that we managed to merge the best elements of each, in our own technique, the Elite ‘Triple Therapy’ approach.

We simply combined together NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), and a fair amount of hypnotherapy. When blended together, this grouping of therapies continues to produce results whose level of success is in line with expectations, with one significant exception; “fly over” clients, (as we call them), constantly achieve a considerably higher success rate with their treatment than the local British residents.

We are more than aware however, that their elevated success rate is not just down to our therapy method, the clinic, or us. We are convinced that our geographical location plays a major part. It has been well documented that when you take someone away from all their normal pressures and associations of home and the working environment, you position them in a preferential mental state to undertake change; add to this a sprinkling of warm weather and the turquoise blue Mediterranean Sea and you have a unique chance to achieve long-term success.
