Its seems that even before the Chancellors budget speech that there has been a trend for new car purchases to green, with three out of five cars with the new 08 number plate being one of the many green cars that are available at the moment.
With data compiled by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) they show that during 2007 there were 128,646 band B cars sold, these produce less than 120 g/Km of Co2. This amount of green cars sold is a massive twenty per cent increase on the year before.
The best-selling low CO2 cars:
Make/model Engines Sales (2007)
Peugeot 107 1.0 petrol 15,333
Ford Fiesta 1.4 diesel 14,784
Toyota Aygo 1.0 petrol 14,172
Citroen C1 1.0 petrol, 1.4 diesel 12,626
Peugeot 207 1.4 diesel, 1.6 diesel 11,830
Toyota Prius 1.5 petrol 8,755
Renault Clio 1.5 diesel 5,230
Toyota Yaris 1.4 diesel 5,173
Volkswagen Polo 1.4 diesel 4,436
MINI Cooper D 1.6 diesel 4,192
It is not just a sense of being green that is motivating the 08 number plate car owners to turn to green machines, there is also the cost of fuel, congestion charges and other taxes that encourage people to drive green.
