Bharatbook.com is proud to announce the new report “Aging of BRIC populations”

50569) from its vast collection of informative market research reports. The proportion of elderly in Thailand has hit the 10% mark in a population of 65 million. Over the next two decades, the ratio is set to rise to 15-20% if current trends persist, according to recent research commissioned by the Government Pension Fund (GPF).
The GPF, in releasing the statistics, highlighted that many Thais are ill prepared for retirement. At a seminar it organised last week that focused on retirement savings, several speakers called for a viable pension system for the country. Participants were told that a large majority of Thais lacked access to financial products, and did not understand how to use the various available options.
Thailand has been planning to launch a mandatory retirement scheme, to complement existing voluntary arrangements. However, plans for its implementation have been affected by political changes in recent years.
