GLENDALE, AZ.: Triad Wireless in partnership with The City of Glendale Transportation Department announces the completion of Glendale’s first IP based Wireless traffic control link. The system, designed and installed by Triad Wireless, was built to provide traffic data and monitoring of the intersections via closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras. Each wireless link provides service for traffic management cameras at Dysart and Glendale, Litchfield and Glendale and around the stadium at 99th and Maryland, Bethany Home and 99th and Bethany and 95th Avenue. The wireless network connects into the City Traffic Management Center (TMC) where the cameras are used in day to day monitoring and management of the signals as well as during high traffic times around University of Phoenix Stadium. The wireless camera system launched successfully during Super Bowl XLII and was pivotal to the success of traffic management during such a high volume in visitors.
“The traffic management (TMC) efforts (during the Super Bowl) proved to be very important and I couldn’t imagine not having some of the camera views that were made possible by this wireless network,” said Avery Rhodes, ITS Manager for the City of Glendale Transportation Department. “This technology allows us to expand our traffic monitoring capabilities quickly, which in turn helps our TMC's effectiveness.”
“We knew that this was a very important area (around the stadium) for the City that had to be functioning in a very short amount of time,” said Rory Conaway President and CEO of Triad Wireless. “With our wireless design we were able to deploy quickly at a much lower cost with less interruption than any fiber installation without sacrificing any of the functionality.”
The system is an integral part to the TMC and City of Glendale. It will continue to be used and grow with the City as needed.
