March 11, 2008 - PRLog -- Whitefish Bay, WI – Jennifer Lovitt Riggs, President of Nota Bene Shoes for Women, is featured in the new book, Birthing the Elephant: The Woman’s Go-For-It! Guide to Overcoming the Big Challenges of Launching a Business by Karin Abarbanel and Bruce Freeman, published by Ten Speed Press.

The book is a supportive, “how to” guide for women making the move from employee to entrepreneur. “When we saw a huge surge of women taking the leap into entrepreneurship, the explosive growth of the  Internet, and the number of mid-career women eager to make a lifestyle change, we realized that there was a tremendous need for this book,” notes coauthor Karin Abarbanel.

The authors chose Riggs in part for her unique start-up story. A former Booz Allen consultant, Riggs left the comforts of the corporate world in 2002 to develop and launch a line of footwear that is both comfortable and stylish. “I think what’s so inspiring about Jennifer’s story is how she made a 180 from employee to entrepreneur,” said Abarbanel. “She had this light bulb idea to create these comfortable shoes. And then she had the courage to run with the idea and launch her business.”

Birthing the Elephant contains advice and anecdotes from Riggs and other prominent female entrepreneurs, such as Bobbi Brown and Liz Lange. “I am delighted to share some of the hard-won knowledge and experience I have developed with other women who are really stretching themselves to grow a valuable business,” said Riggs. “This is a unique book because it covers a lot of psychological, emotional, and practical ground as it pertains to women in particular. Lots of books can walk you through marketing and planning, but few help you get a handle on those “normal” 4:30-in-the-morning feelings of nervousness.”
