The diamond was snapped up for £45,000 by an anonymous bidder at the auction house in the city’s Jewellery Quarter, which was founded in 1876.
Initially estimated at £25,000 to £30,000 lively competition pushed the sale price to record levels, with two main bidders at the auction and another hopeful of buying the pendant by telephone.
The 10ct heart shaped diamond is the centrepiece of the item, with two smaller diamonds along the 18ct white gold link chain.
Stephen Whittaker, managing partner at Fellows & Sons, said: “This pendant has an exquisite heart shaped diamond and proved to be really popular, which made it our most expensive single item of jewellery sold at Fellows & Sons.
“Three bidders were very keen to get their hands on the pendant which created a really exciting atmosphere in the auction room.”
