Research and analysis highlights
CNP is a market leader in France and has an extensive distribution network. In France, the distribution agreements La Banque Postale and Groupe Caisse d'Epargne have been extended until 2015. Outside France, the agreement with Capitalia in Italy extends until 2015 and that with Caixa Economica Federal in Brazil until 2021.
Despite strong improvement in profit levels, CNP has not been able to generate competitive profit margins. It recorded an operating profit margin of 4.1% in 2006 and a net profit margin of 2.6% which is significantly lower when compared to its competitors, AXA and Groupama.
In April 2007, CNP acquired a 94% stake in the Spanish insurer Skandia Vida. Skandia Vida serves over 300,000 clients and has distribution partnerships with a network of savings banks in Spain. It will give the CNP a foothold in the Spanish individual life insurance market alongside its operations in Italy and Portugal.
