Are our GPs really working in the best interests of the patient?

A personal horrific experience of having my wife screaming with pain and calling for assistance from our GP which was denied. On talking to some of our members they have experienced this too.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Mar 09, 2008 – Their union or whatever it is called voted 93% that surgeries should open for the benefit of the patients for an extra hefty payment but a lot of GPs say they will not open and will stick to 9-6 office hours.

I phoned my GPs surgery around 10.30am to ask a doctor to call and the receptionist was adamant that I should bring my wife up to the surgery. I explained she was in no fit state to walk and I was incapable of helping her if she collapsed..

It angered me to hear this receptionist had no feelings at all for the best interests of a sick patient but was determined to saving a call out for a doctor. She went overboard to get across that a doctor would not call but because of my insistans said she would have him/her phone when he came in. Not to be beat, her parting words were the doctor would not call. At that last statement I was extremely frightened for my wife and rang 999 and as I was explaining to their receptionist her condition an ambulance arrived as I put the phone down. (Ten Minutes) After lots of tests it was discovered she had a small bleed in her brain but has recovered well due to the promt treatment at the hospital.

I have always felt the help I received from the medics in this surgery was second to none. So I could not believe the insensitivity of this receptionist for a patient so ill.. Also in the past I have experienced interrogation by their receptionists but I don’t think for a minute this reflects the medical staffs true feelings towards patients but I do feel the attitude of the receptionist is well known to the doctors.

i am beginning to think doctors are putting out they care but won’t have extra opening and do hide behind the Gestapo like tactics of their receptionist
