PRLog (Press Release) –
Mar 07, 2008 – According to the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), users of the Nintendo Wii are contributing to their daily recommended 30 minutes of exercise by playing games like tennis and boxing.
The console, which comes with a handheld remote that reacts to the player's physical movement, has proved to be a big hit since its release last year and a spokesman for the CSP has said that this is encouraging more people to get active.
"Physiotherapists support the idea of games consoles that encourage players to get up from the sofa and become more active … [and] the Wii is good for motivating people who are usually not interested in sport," he said.
Reuters reported that patients suffering from the after-effects of a stroke were being prescribed the Nintendo Wii as a means to regain balance, coordination and upper and lower body strength.
