While most screen writing contests entice writers with the notion that they may introduce writers to agents or managers, it will serve as little to no benefit because unless writers are signed with one of the top five to ten agencies in the world that have the clout to promote client. And even that will not guarantee that a script will be optioned, sold, or produced.
Further, the current economies of the film business and the consolidation of studios to mostly co-finance a majority of their films with outside hedge funds, limits the amount of money that would be put in a writer's pocket unless they get on the radar of studios with an independently produced film.
Real Realities believes that the best way to get noticed on anyone's radar is to have a film a writer wrote shown at a film festival or even worst case a straight to DVD release.
In Hollywood, most of the people that really matter do not have time to consider reading new scripts from new writers. They would rather pop in a DVD and watch it, see it at a film festival, or download it online.
At Real Realities, we do not want to introduce you to agents or managers and then say "good luck". We want to make your film.
