FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Mar 04, 2008 – Boston’s dignitaries, local celebrities, sports figures, and area residents will be joining together to kick off spring while raising awareness and funds for the Friends of Boston’s Homeless at the 21st Annual Beyond Shelter Gala on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at The State Room. Co-hosted by Mayor Thomas M. Menino and the Boston Public Health Commission, the gala will feature a night of mingling with some of Boston’s best, great cuisine, dancing to the sounds of big band and a chance to win a multitude of unique prizes.

The Friends of Boston’s Homeless not only provides a bed, hot meal and a shower to more than 800 of Boston’s homeless every night but also offers education, housing and job skills to help these individuals move beyond homelessness. For the third consecutive year, the efforts of FOBH in partnership with Boston Public Health Commission’s Homeless Services have helped reduce the number of homeless living on the streets and adults in emergency shelter.

“This year our partnership will work to further reduce the numbers of homeless by opening a new program that will provide specific services for the chronically street homeless and the elderly homeless to help them move into permanent housing,” said Mariann Bucina, Executive Director of Friends of Boston’s Homeless. “The funds and donations raised from our annual event are crucial in implementing new programs like this that can greatly decrease the number of Boston’s homeless.”

Top chefs from more than thirty of Boston’s award-winning restaurants including Hamersley’s Bistro, Aquitaine, Teatro, Eclano, Vela, Icarus, Azure, Eastern Standard, Legal Sea Foods, Vox Populi, Gargoyles On The Square, Redbones, The Temple Bar, Sausage Guy, Lindt Chocolate Shops, Flour Bakery & Café and Boston University Club will be cooking up their famous dishes for sampling and Four Guys In Tuxes will be providing the sounds of big band for dancing. A silent auction and raffle gives attendees a chance to win many incredible prizes, including weekend trips with hotel and airfare, fine arts and jewelry, premium tickets to performances and sporting events around Boston, and the ever-popular sports memorabilia. Visit www.fobh.org for complete listing. In addition, media sponsors Improper Bostonian and WXRV-92.5/ The River will offer complementary giveaways.

The event takes place on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the State Room (atop Sixty State Street) from 6:00pm – 11:00pm. Tickets are $100.00. To order tickets or for more information, call (617) 534-2526, ext. 383/385 or go to www.fobh.org.
