Building on a partnership formed in 2007, the announcement strengthens D-Link’s existing alliance with ENERGY STAR, a joint programme of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE), to promote energy conservation and management best practices.
D-Link’s commitment to improving energy efficiency across its product range was reinforced when it delivered the first Green Ethernet switches to market in September of last year. D-Link is currently extending its Green Ethernet technology to include its business class switches, starting with its unmanaged switch range. With power savings of up to 44 percent, D-Link’s Green Ethernet switches bring tangible efficiency gains and cost savings with no increase in cost.
For businesses, ENERGY STAR takes a strategic approach to energy management, producing both environmental and cost savings. It also helps organisations measure current energy performance, establish goals, track savings and gain rewarding improvements. In December 2007, an EU-US Energy Star programme was established that requires EU institutions and central Member State government authorities to use energy efficient criteria no less demanding than those defined in the Energy Star programme when purchasing office equipment.
Kevin Wen, President D-Link Europe commented: “D-Link is committed to energy efficiency across our product portfolio. D-Link was the first networking vendor to establish product accreditation with ENERGY STAR in the US and we are delighted to see the programme become firmly established in Europe with strong EU backing.”
"We salute D-Link's leadership in this important energy-saving initiative,"
D-Link’s support for ENERGY STAR and its commitment to the advancement of Green Ethernet technology re-emphasises D-Link's strong commitment to protecting the environment, leading the development of eco-friendly products that comply with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives.
