Full Frame Documentary Film Festival Announces 2008 Opening Night Film

Film Festival Kicks Off Four Day Event With U.S. Premiere Of Samuel Goldwyn Films And Red Envelope Entertainment’s “Trumbo”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Mar 03, 2008 – DURHAM, N.C. – The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival (www.fullframefest.org), has announced that the festival will screen the U.S. premiere of Samuel Goldwyn Films' and Red Envelope Entertainment's “Trumbo,” as its opening night film, sponsored by Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc., on Thursday, April 3 at 8 p.m. at the Historic Carolina Theatre.

“Trumbo” profiles legendary screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, best known for “Spartacus” and “Roman Holiday,” the latter written under a pseudonym because he had been blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee.  Based on the play by his son Christopher Trumbo, this film brings together some of Hollywood’s leading actors, including Joan Allen, Brian Dennehy, Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas, Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, Nathan Lane, Josh Lucas, Liam Neeson, David Strathairn and Donald Sutherland, to paint a portrait of the writer in his own pungent words.   Emotional and sometimes comic readings of his candid letters, as well as interviews with people who knew him, reveal a man of great wit, courage and integrity.  The film is executive produced by Jim Kohlbergabd produced by Will Battersby, Tory Tunnell, Al Kingenstein and David Viola.  An extended Q&A with Director Peter Askin and Christopher Trumbo will follow the screening.  Additional special guests will be announced in coming weeks.

The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival will be held April 3-6 in downtown Durham.  Recognized as the premier documentary film festival in the United States by both The New York Times and indieWIRE, Full Frame is an arena for documentary filmmakers to showcase their work theatrically in an environment that stimulates conversation and community between filmmakers, industry executives and the general public.  For more information on attending the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, visit www.fullframefest.org.

Quotes:
“We are honored to present the U.S. premiere of “Trumbo” as the opening night film at the 2008 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival,” said Peg Palmer, executive director of Full Frame.  “This film is a stirring reminder of the struggle and high price some pay for freedom of speech.  With the recent Writer’s Guild of America strike, we are even more keenly aware of the power of words and the impact a writer’s absence can have on our entertainment culture.  Dalton Trumbo’s storied letters to friends during the McCarthy era’s black list have been talked about in Hollywood for years.  It is a privilege to showcase this film which finally brings his extraordinary experience to the big screen.”
