OpEdNews's founder Rob Kall started OpEdNews about five years ago, a few weeks before the start of the Iraq war. Its readership has grown so it now reaches over 600,000 unique visitors a month-- over 40 million hits, over two million pageviews and reaches 200 countries.
OpEdNews has over 1000 writers, 30 volunteer editors and close to 10,000 members, making it one of the biggest media sites on the planet. Just two months ago, it was growing at the rate of 10-20 members a day. Since the beginning of 2008, that rate has grown to 70-125 new members a day and rising.
The site has developed a reputation as "the peoples' media" because it is open to publishing articles from anyone who writes well with new ideas or viewpoints. It has over 12,000 articles just on voting integrity, covering election theft, electronic voting, voter disenfranchisement and the like. It has over 1500 articles on impeachment of Cheney and Bush and thousands of articles covering a wide variety of political issues, usually from a left leaning perspective. That said, a remarkable number of right wingers are regular readers because the site has a reputation for allowing expression of all the angles on the issues.
OpEdNews is the pilot website for populum.com. The site uses custom designed software with unique features not seen on any other sites, like customized action pages, tag cloud control panels, color coded comments, with member images, tag suggestion software for content submission, "think-twice"
