Mar 02, 2008 – The self-styled Paul de Havilland has denied being related to famous 1940's Hollywood actress, Olivia de Havilland. Speaking on the red carpet of a celebrity fundraiser Wednesday, Paul de Havilland, known for both his fashion label, Happy Pants, and for an anxiously awaited up-coming television series, claimed to be a fan of the two-time Oscar winning actress - relative or not.
'I know her and like her. Gone With The Wind - right on! I wish I could say otherwise, but we aren't related.'
The controversy arose when it was revealed of all the variants of the spelling of the surname - Dehavilland, Dehaviland, de Haviland, de Havilland, deHaviland, deHavilland, DeHavilland, and DeHaviland - as well as the French versions that include an accent on different vowels, the rarest version - de Havilland - was shared by Olivia and Paul and very few others. It was also suggested both seemed to enjoy the blessings of charisma, another rare trait.
de Havilland - the younger - insisted that despite this, the two are not related, although it was revealed that he refused to submit to a blood test. Olivia's press agent declined to comment. The actress is said to be enjoying retirement in Paris.
