Whether it's shoplifting or joyriding, the Garda cannot touch them; they’ve not a care in the world and the living is easy.
But pain is part of the experience of the group. A dark shadow falls across their lives. Things are never quite the same again as the group has to grow up and come to terms with the harsh realities of adulthood. In a culture where life is always on the boil and often boils over, humour is the safety valve of the group.
