BMC Software Continues Mainframe’s Integration into Business Service Management

BMC Software announces its support of IBM’s new System z10 enterprise class mainframe

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Feb 29, 2008 – Building on more than two decades of mainframe innovation, BMC Software (NYSE: BMC) today announced its support of IBM’s new System z10 enterprise class mainframe as part of an ongoing drive to strengthen the integration of the mainframe within BMC’s Business Service Management (BSM) offering.

For nearly two decades BMC has been providing day-one support for all of IBM’s critical operating systems and platforms.  With today’s announcement, BMC’s full line of innovative scheduling, database and mainframe management solutions are supporting the new System z10 mainframe, enabling BMC customers to maximize the value of their mainframe investment.

Delivering the industry’s most comprehensive BSM strategy, BMC supports both mainframe and distributed systems and integrates them in an enterprise-wide approach.  More than 80 percent of the world’s computer data resides on mainframe servers. BMC’s ability to integrate the mainframe into BSM offers financial services, telecommunications, transportation and other industries significant benefits that other competitors such as HP cannot provide.  HP, which does not have a comprehensive integrated mainframe management offering in production, is limited to managing only 20 percent of the world’s data.

“With the top global Fortune 500 businesses relying on the mainframe to drive down IT costs and customers forecasting MIPS growth at 15 to 20 percent, the mainframe continues to play a key role in delivering Business Service Management,” said Ralph Crosby, chief technology officer of BMC’s Mainframe Service Management business unit. “Without the mainframe included in a company’s BSM strategy, they cannot truly align IT with the needs of the business.  Leveraging our strong heritage on the mainframe, we are able to differentiate ourselves from the competition by providing the industry’s only complete solution for aligning IT with business objectives.”

Global organizations, including banking, insurance, service providers and the public sector continue to rely on mainframes to support mission-critical business services.  With IT spending growing twice as fast as Gross Domestic Product, businesses such as healthcare, utilities, manufacturers and retailers are driving down costs by exploiting mainframe workload capacity.  The cost of running incremental workloads on the mainframe decreases as the total workload increases.

BMC’s support of IBM’s new System z10 enterprise class mainframe enables customers to fully take advantage of the company’s BSM enterprise-wide offering including its newest  release of the BMC Discovery for z/OS software,  which discovers a company’s mainframe assets and integrates them into BMC’s Atrium Configuration Management Database (CMDB).  The BMC Discovery for z/OS product enables interrogation of the information and subsystems within the mainframe, delivering access to information within the mainframe by the wider IT environment.  BMC’s full line of BSM mainframe solutions enable companies to better understand and manage the relationship between their mainframe environments and business objectives for a complete BSM strategy.  For more information on BMC’s full line of mainframe management solutions, go to the following url http://www.bmc.com/products/products_services_detail/0,, ...
