Follow on Google News | Choreographer and Dancer “Chopper” Launches Hollywood Dance StudioDancer and choreographer has toured with Omarion and Ginuwine; now opens own dance studio.
By: Lincoln Street Productions Located on legendary Sunset Boulevard, Chopper’s goal is to foster an atmosphere within his studio that is non-competitive and welcoming to all. In addition to providing instruction to those who want to dance professionally, Chopper said many of his students are those who simply enjoy dancing as a hobby or as a fun way to stay physically fit. “We have mothers taking hip-hop classes with their teenagers, which is something you don’t see very often. People really open up and have fun when they experience how inviting our studio is,” he said. For Chopper, the new studio is the culmination of his career to date. Hailing from Flint, Michigan, Chopper knew as a teenager that he wanted to make dancing a career. After high school he followed in his sister’s footsteps to enroll at Western Michigan University as a dance major. It was there that Chopper received the long-awaited phone call that launched his career, an invitation to dance for a friend who had just been signed to Warner Brothers Records, an opportunity which led to opening for Lil’ Bow Wow and NSYNC. Chopper’s unique blend of formal university training in ballet, jazz and modern dance and his experiences on tour with top performers results in versatile dancing abilities and styles, which is something he strives to pass on to his students. “My broad background allows me to change styles with minimal effort. For up and coming dancers seeking paid professional work within the industry, this is a valuable quality to have,” said Chopper. With the mantra “beyond dance”, Chopper encourages his students to be passionate about each and every dance move, even the ones that might seem to be insignificant. “I tell them that I want to awaken the fire inside of them. It’s what’s on the inside, not the outside, that matters,” he said. Chopper Platt is a professional choreographer and dancer who has toured with recognized artists including Omarion, Ginuine, Missy Elliot, Ludacris and Ashanti. In addition, Chopper has appeared in numerous television productions including the Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Tyra Banks Show, Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve and the Daytime Emmy Awards. Feature film appearances include “Stomp the Yard” and “You Got Served”. For more information about Chopper or Ography Dance Studio, please visit www.ographydance.com or call 323-957-1515.
