Memmo Baleeira, a new Contemporary ARTEH® Hotel in the Algarve

The Hotel’s name is inspired by the word “memories”, hence “Memmo”, and Baleeira is the exact location in Sagres. The symbol is a chameleon which reverts to the architectural genre of being fully integrated with the surroundings, benefiting from natural light in every corner.

The Hotel first opened its doors in 1962, and quickly became known for its bold decoration and quality service. The service has just gotten better over the years and today we experience a relaxing environment in anyone of the 105 rooms, unique Suite or 5 Duplex Suites that overlook the Atlantic Ocean.

Inside, the décor is a true blast from the past where the sphere is the dominating theme from the sealing to the carpets, sofas and floors. Complimenting the theme you’ll find designer furniture by Tom Vac and Philippe Starck, along with re-styled pieces that originally decorated the Hotel during the 60’s.

The vibe is simple and trendy in tones of white, dark brown and ocean blue, giving the Hotel a neat and clean look that is paradise to minimalist lovers and contemporary art seekers.

The Hotel’s facilities include a magnificent SPA that allows sunset massages on sun-beds by the rocks where waves make a gentle, relaxing and seductive soundtrack. The treatments vary from oriental head massages to full body jade stone relaxation methods.

About the Algarve

The Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal, incorporating, amongst others, the cities of Faro, Lagos, Olhão, Tavira, Portimão and Silves.

Due to the Moorish occupation, the region was called “Al-Gharb” which means “the country of the West”. The Moorinsh occupation ended during the 12th Century and the “Al-Gharb” has been since then the Algarve, however, it was not until the 13th Century that the Portuguese finally secured the region against subsequent Moorish attempts to recapture the area.

The Algarve is hilly, but traversed with rich valleys. Its highest point is the Mountain range of Monchique, with a maximum altitude of 906m – Peak of the Fóia. The region is also home of the Ria Rormosa, a Nature Reserve of 170 square kilometers where hundreds of different types of birds can be seen.

Presently, the Algarve is a popular destination for tourism, mainly because of its clean, warm water beaches and Mediterranean climate. The length of the south facing coastline is approximately 155 kilometers. Beyond the westernmost point Cape Saint Vincent it stretches a further 50 kilometers to the north. The coastline is notable for picturesque limestone caves and grottoes, particularly around Lagos, which are accessible by boat.

There are many other amazing and famous summer destinations such as Albufaeira, Vilamoura, Portimão, Lagos, Armação de Pêra, Monte Gordo and Tavira.
