Dr. Farhang Niroomand earned a Ph.D. in International Economics at Michigan State University. Former associate dean of the College of Business at the University of Southern Mississippi and former chair of the Department of Economics, Finance and International Business, Dr. Niroomand is currently BAC Professor of Economics and International Business.
Dr. Niroomand has written and served as project director for several U.S Department of Education grants and serves as a reviewer of grants. He has published extensively in professional and academic journals including Economic Development and Cultural Change, Economics Letters, Weltwirtschaftliches Archive, Journal of Economics Studies, Applied Economics, Journal of World Trade, Journal of Developing Areas, Competitiveness Review, Journal of Global Business and the Journal of Economic Development.
Other accomplishments include being appointed to the District Export Council by the U.S Secretary of Commerce and selection as Executive Secretary/Treasurer of Omicron Delta Epsilon, one of the world's largest academic honor societies. He has twice been the recipient of USM's Excellence in Teaching Award; he has received the BellSouth Outstanding Faculty Publication Award. Dr. Niroomand is a member of the American Economic Association, the Academy of International Business, and the Association for Global Business. He is the editor of the Journal of Current Research in Global Business. His extensive knowledge and research in the fields of International Trade and Finance make Dr. Niroomand a foremost authority and well-known leader in these areas.
