Older Cars May Be Banned From Towns

PRLog (Press Release) – Feb 25, 2008 – In another attack on the country’s motorists there are fears that following a trial in Germany that all cars that are ten years old and over will be banned from all towns and cities in the UK. This has worried the owners of classic and vintage cars who are planning to bring this to the public’s attention.

It is estimated that around twenty five per cent of all the vehicles on the UK’s roads today are tens year old and over, this would work out at around six and half million vehicles, which would mean that these vehicle owners would not be able to enter any town or city throughout the UK and therefore is likely to cause hardship and hassle for people trying to run a business or just simply going to work.

The trail is due to take place in Stuttgart, Germany, in March. Any vehicle wishing to enter the designated green zone created around the city will need to be displaying a sticker that has been bought in advance. Vehicles will be classed into four sections where only three are eligible for a sticker and therefore allowed into the city.

In order to highlight the issue and worries of people who own older cars a petition on the Prime Minister website has been started and over 20,000 people have already signed up. The petition is available here http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Classic-Cars and will be open until the 18th March.
