Revolutionary changes in the fields of chemistry and biology are happening due to better understanding of virtually all living systems at the molecular level.

Exciting scientific advances are being made at the chemistry-biology interface where the chemistry’s analytic, measurement, and modeling techniques are being applied to biological phenomena.

Breakthroughs in Chemistry-Biology Interface has sparked research in genomics, metabolomics and proteomics that has the potential to further elucidate biological systems and to mitigate human disease through the development of bionic sensors, diagnostic tools, new antimicrobials, and novel therapeutics.

To promote and advance the cause of multidisciplinary research in chemistry and biology, the Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists (ISCB) Lucknow has organized the 12th International Conference on “Interface of Chemistry – Biology in Biomedical Research” during 22 – 24 February 2008 at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani Rajasthan which is one of the top ranking universities in India today.

The conference was inaugurated by none other than Proud to be a BITSian Padma Shri Professor Goverdhan Mehta presently Chairman of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and former Director of Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. In his address, Prof Mehta spoke on “Probing Synergy between Natural Products and Total Synthesis for Drug Discovery” emphasizing on Science of Organic Synthesis which is a creative choreography with molecules.

Prof L K Maheshwari Vice Chancellor BITS Pilani in his welcome address highlighted the interdisciplinary approach of the Institute’s educational system as well as flexibilities such as Practice School, dual degree for science students apart from Work Integrated Learning programmes for HRD of industries.

Dr P M S Chauhan General Secretary of ISCB spoke on the importance of Chemistry Biology interface and the activities of ISCB. Dr Dalip Kumar and Dr Anil Kumar from BITS Pilani convenor and co-convenor for the conference received well deserved applause from one and all for their hard work. Prof Sivasubramanian Unit Chief from BITS Pilani gave the vote of thanks.

The conference has drawn the participation of leading institutions from India as well as a host of foreign countries.
