SikhPal.com Officially lauches new version after successful beta launch

The largest Sikh Social Network - Sikhpal.com - relaunches its new site as exclusive invite only social network for Professional Sikhs Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 21/02/08

Feb. 21, 2008 - PRLog -- During his last semester at university, Richard Ivey School of Business student, Ash Singh, was chosen to participate in an exchange program at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. A turbaned Sikh himself, Ash was eager to make Sikh contacts in Hong Kong. He was especially eager to find out key information, such as, whether there was someone to teach him how to play the tabla at the Gurudwara in Hong Kong; he wanted to find out if there were any Sikhs in the export business so he could get some guidance on how to launch his own company in China; moreover, he was eager to see if there were other Sikhs studying at the Chinese University.

Unfortunately, his inquiries in the months leading up to his departure came up short. "While the web is teeming with Sikh sites of all kinds, I never found a site that was meant to link people. You'll find many matrimonial sites and sites focused on teaching Sikhi, but a site where people go expressly to make business or spiritual Sikh contacts was nowhere to be found." Says Ash.

So Ash, an entrepreneur in the tech industry, decided to build the site himself. He brought together programmers from China, web designers from Singapore, and Gurmustuk Singh Khalsa, the founder of SikhNet, became his mentor. Combining the best from each field, and adding his own business savvy, Ash built a site just for Sikhs.

Thus, SikhPal.com was created and in May 2004, made its appearance on the web.

Sikhpal is a spiritual, social, and business-networking site, meant to connect Sikhs of all ages and of all nationalities. Moving to a new area within your own city? Find a contact in your future neighbourhood, on Sikhpal.com. Visiting a new country? Find yourself a Sikh tour guide on Sikhpal.com. Want to find a kirtan teacher in your area? Use Sikhpal.

Sikhpal's effectiveness is maximized by its use of the concept of "Six Degrees of Separation." The concept centres on the idea that a person is separated from any other person in the world by at most, six steps. Sikhpal's focus is to make those six steps easier to take. A main feature on the site is that if you find someone whose profile looks interesting to you, you can ask to become his or her "friend". Once you are that person's "friend" you have access to their friends list, which in turn allows you to see who they're friends with. Find someone interesting? Add them to your friend list too. The more contacts you make, the more contacts you will have access to. It is really that simple.

The site also features a clubs section, which allows like-minded members to meet and discuss common interests such books, music, or more specific aspects of Sikhi. Members are given their own "Friendbook" which allow members to put in a good name for their friends. A "forums" section also exists for people to post their thoughts online.

Sikhpal's goal is to bring Sikhs closer together. Sikhpal wants Sikhs to connect with other Sikhs be it for business, spiritual, or for social reasons. "In just 2 weeks, hundreds of Sikhs from all over the world have signed up and are interacting and connecting like never before." Says Ash. "And as more Sikhs join Sikhpal, our users will continue to benefit in new and interesting ways."
