The Free-Radical Fighting Foods

Some of the fighting foods that helps us live a healthy life. Antioxidant- filled fruits and vegetables are the foods we should eat to protect our bodies against age-related disease. Eat them daily and raw for full potency.

AVOCADO

Rich in glutathione, the master antioxidant that helps neutralise destructive fat in other foods. Contains potassium for blood cell protection.

BERRIES

Strawberries, raspberries, cranberries and blueberries are rich in vitamin C. Blueberries are the richest source of antioxidant anthocyanins.

BROCCOLI

Rich in antioxidant vitamins C, beta-carotene, quercetin, indoles, glutathione, and lutein. In women's, it's thought to help prevent cancer by neutralising excesses of oestrogen. It also helps guard against lung cancer, colon and cardiovascular disease.

CABBAGE

Antioxidant indole-3 carbinol speeds the disposal of breast cancer-causing oestrogens and lowers the risk of colonic and stomach cancers.

CARROTS

Help boost immune function, lower cholesterol and reduce risk of stroke and lung cancer. They also help guard against age-related eye disease and dwindling eyesight.

CITRUS FRUITS

Oranges contain cancer fighting carotenoids, termenes, floavonoids and vitamin C. Grape fruit contains cholesterol reducing fibre in its juice sacs and membrances.

GRAPE

Contain at least 20 antioxidants. Richly coloured types are the most potent, raisins are more powerful than fresh grapes. Grape antioxidants, chiefly quercetin, prevent blood from clotting, relax blood vessels and inhibit the oxidation of LDL cholesterol.

GARLIC

Contains at least 12 antioxidants plus ajoene, an anti-cholesterol agent that helps prevent blood clots, and allicin, an antiviral and antibacterial agent. Garlic also stimulates immune function and may help prevent memory loss and depression.

ONIONS

Help prevent blood clots by raising 'good' HDL cholesterol levels. Red and yellow types are richest in cancer-inhibiting quercetin, which also has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties.

SPINACH

Contains beta-carotene and lutein, both powerful antioxidants, which help protect against cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, strokes, cataracts and macular degeneration, which can cause blindness.
TEA
Helps prevent heart disease and cancer, thanks to antioxidants such as polyphenols, quercetin and catechins. Tea also stimulates liver enzymes to detoxify the body of free radicals and cell-damaging chemicals.

TOMATOES

The richest source of lycopene, an extremely potent antioxidant that helps preserve physical and mental functions.
