Feb 20, 2008 – An event planned for next month (March 2 & 3) will celebrate the achievements of the Iowa bed and breakfast industry and look at what it takes to run a successful bed and breakfast business.
Billed as the bed and breakfast event of the year, the conference is open to the public and anyone with a B&B or vacation rental property is invited to attend. According to Conference Chair, Pam Adams, “this is a conference for the bed and breakfast sector, but vacation rental owner will also gain great value from the educational workshops. After all, alternative lodging to hotels and motels are a vital part of the tourist industry in Iowa.” Titled Sailing into the 21st Century the event takes place at the new High Pointe Waterpark Resort, Storm Lake, on Sunday March 2 & 3. The line-up features inspirational speakers from across the industry including Janice Hurley and Patti McPherson from BedandBreakfast.com giving a 3 hour Intensive Internet presentation, Iowa author and tourism speaker Amelia Painter, Willie Louthen-Brown from Webervations.com (online reservation service), Sherrifa Jones addressing issues related to Historic Building Preservation and Registration, Alana and Jake Heying from Heying Tax Services, K. Sorbe from Elements, and others from the Iowa innkeeping community. Experienced bed and breakfast owner Janet Allard and insurance specialist Chuck Andracchio will be sharing their experiences of what makes for a successful bed and breakfast business to attendees currently aspiring to become innkeepers. There will also be the chance to learn tips, tools and ideas for business growth and plenty of networking opportunities. The conference is being organized by a group of enthusiastic volunteers from the tourism excellence best practice group the Iowa Bed & Breakfast Innkeepers Association.
