Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac hosts car seat inspection/replacement event on March 8.

Safely transporting your infants and small children takes more than just following the rules of the road. It means making sure they’re secure in their car seats and later in booster seats.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Feb 13, 2008 – The only problem is many parents, even those with the best of intentions, do not know how to correctly install a car seat or booster seat for their children. To assist those people and soon-to-be parents and to make sure their car seats are correctly installed Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac will host a car seat inspection/replacement event in Plymouth.

The event is Saturday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac dealership, 137 Samoset Street (Route 44) in Plymouth. Take exit 6 off Route 3. State-certified inspectors, comprised of police and fire officials, will check car seats for proper installation. They will also check seats against a product recall list. A limited number of car seats and booster seats will be available as replacements for recalled or damaged seats.  Certified car seat technicians from South Shore Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit department will also attend the event.  South Shore Hospital offers car seat safety classes to ensure the safe transport of newborns from the hospital to home.

“Both Chevrolet and Cadillac make safety a priority with its automobiles and have safety experts on staff to make sure vehicles are up to code. When it comes to car seats, parents are often left on their own to install the seat properly with only product instructions as a guide and no expert to validate whether an installation is safe or not. This car seat inspection event can give parents the peace of mind knowing that their child’s seat is now installed correctly,” said Jeff Tracy, president of Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac.

“As a nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at South Shore Hospital, I want to help make sure the babies we deliver get home safe and remain safe traveling in an automobile for years to come,” said Paula Slack, RN, and Certified Car Seat Technician. ‘South Shore Hospital’s Car Seat Safety Class’ and car seat inspection events like this help make that happen and give parents a greater awareness of car seat safety than they might have had before.”

Massachusetts law requires that all babies be transported in an approved safety seat. Certified car seat technicians receive their training and are approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

For more information on the car seat inspection event at Tracy Chevrolet Cadillac on March 8, you can call Paula Slack, RN and Marcia Smith, RN, at (781) 340-8373. If you’re a state-certified car seat inspector and would like to participate in the March 8 event, you can contact either Ms. Slack or Ms. Smith at the above number or send an e-mail to plymouthrn@aol.com.
