PRLog (Press Release) –
Feb 13, 2008 – RALEIGH, N.C. — The Foundation of Hope for Research and Treatment of Mental Illness was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from Bank of America. The grant will support the nonprofit organization’s mission to promote scientific research aimed at discovering the causes and potential cures of mental illness in order to develop a more effective means of treatment.
“We are grateful for the philanthropic philosophy of corporations like Bank of America,” said Bebee Bason Lee, executive director of the Foundation of Hope. “Corporate giving helps local nonprofits achieve greater goals. This grant will assist the Foundation of Hope in fulfilling its mission to fund scientific advancements that will benefit those suffering from mental illnesses in our community.” The grant will be added to the funds allocated to scientific research that were raised by the foundation last year. After a formal review process, the foundation’s board of trustees distributes those funds through research grants and special gifts. The board of trustees will vote on 2008 recipients later this month. Over the years the foundation has funded 96 grants totaling more than $2.5 million, providing financial support for ongoing and new research, treatment, and the development of researchers at the University of North Carolina and its affiliated psychiatric institutions, as well as at local mental health agencies. Additionally, the foundation is committed to raising community awareness and supporting effective treatment programs, having awarded special gifts to local non-profit organizations including HopeLine, Threshold Clubhouse, Atlantic House, Cooper Riis and The Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood.
