Every time I sit at the computer to write another newsletter article, I always begin with a deep breath and a quick prayer for a message that will impact your life and health. With that said, February has always been recognized by Valentine’s Day with a reflection of love and care for those around us, and this month I feel lead to discuss the heart.
The statistics on heart disease are staggering as it continues to be the leading cause of death worldwide. The question within the research has always been “why?” and “how do we prevent this?” I want to take a different view while encompassing some basic naturopathic understanding of possible causes that explain this trend.
I recently heard someone speak and remind me that if you want to understand the people around you to sit back and listen while they talk. What we speak reflects who we are and the words that come from are mouth reflect the matters of our heart’s desire or concern. As humans we all have desires and concerns, both good and bad, which empower us to make choices, both good and bad, in an attempt to change the world around us.
In essence, within your heart you contain a blueprint of your beliefs which are based upon what you have learned through your life’s experiences. Your personal beliefs dictate to your mind what is possible. Now let’s apply quantum physics theory to this equation where all things are possible, just not probable.
Whether you believe in God and His Word (the Bible) or not, you may find it interesting what it says about matters of the heart and belief. The wisest man known to ever walk the earth, Solomon, recorded statements in Proverbs that we should “apply our heart to understanding”
Research has shown that people who experience grief, loss, with the association of a “broken heart” can potentially develop symptoms of heart disease including irregular rhythms and decreased function as found in congestive heart failure. This is in addition to the environmental associations I’ve presented previously about air quality and diet effects on heart health.
I can talk any day about the benefits of nutrients such as essential fatty acids, CoQ-10, L-Carnitine, magnesium, taurine, flavonoids, or herbs for heart health support. However, as I search for truth and understanding in life and wish to impart change in the world around me from the knowledge gained, I must inform you that there are deeper issues than some nutrient or herb when it comes to the health of your heart.
Bottom line, when it comes to matters of the heart, it comes down to what you believe and what you are speaking. Are you speaking about things in life that bring hope, joy, and prosperity, or are you speaking about debt, anger, and fear? Do you build up the people around you with what you say, or are you critical and short tempered?
I want to encourage you this Valentine’s Day to a healthy heart trial. For 2 weeks make an attempt to control your mind by listening carefully to those around you before you speak. Also, focus the words you say on the positives of each situation and give at least 3 complements to those around you daily. I assure you that upon completion of this 2 week trial you will have a change in the health of your heart and those around you.
