Rivanna River is building a 64 unit condo/hotel to help overcome the existing capacity constraints for this type of facility in the University of Virginia community. “We uncovered two types of unmet demands when we conducted our research,” said Carrow. “First, the existing world-class summer youth camp on the property has about 2700 children a year that come from all over the world. Many of the parents have expressed a desire to vacation near their children for part of the summer, if they could find a suitable resort in the area.”
“Second, we found that the demands for hotels generated by activities at Uva outstrips the capacity during much of the year. This problem is getting worse as the University begins to conduct extensive technology transfer programs that require world-class meeting and conference facilities,”
To meet the unmet needs, Carrow and his partners, Mark Glickman, the General Manager, with 20 years of hotel management experience in the Charlottesville area of Virginia, and Frank Golab, an experienced real estate development professional, designed a resort that had a wealth of offerings, including:
· 18 Hole Championship Golf
· 9 Hole, Par 3 Golf Training Academy for Youth
· Horseback riding, with 90 horses on site
· Tennis, 3 indoor and 8 outdoor courts, with professional instruction
· Spa and Wellness Center
· Healthy Lifestyle Nutrition Center
· “Plein Aire” Art School.
· Trout fishing, hiking trails and biking
· Winery and local beer brewery tours
· Historical tours and shopping in Monticello, Richmond Williamsburg and Petersburg
· Meeting facilities and conference rooms for all types of business and trade associations
The Resort is a Lexington Resort Brand underneath The Vantage Hospitality Group, the 12th largest hotel company worldwide. The resort is a member of NACHO (National Association of Condo Hotel Owners), The NGCOA (National Golf Course Owners Association)
“We thought through all the activities that families would like to do on a vacation to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and then we added all the business meeting functions that we know the high tech community looks for when they are doing deals,” said Carrow. “We think we are creating the new crown jewel in Blue Ridge luxury resorts.”
