Feb. 8, 2008 - PRLog -- Ah, Valentines Day, love is in the air, the love birds are chirping, the day is filled with romance that goes long into the night, except for many of the estimated 95.7 million singles who reside in the US.

Special holidays like Valentines Day can present its own unique stress and anxiety for singles not involved in a relationship, divorced or having lost a partner through death.

Some singles even celebrate Valentines Day as SAD day, SAD represents “Single Awareness Day” it is a way according to Wikipedia, for singles to celebrate or commiserate the day normally set aside for couples.

It’s understandable how one can build up the stress levels long before the day itself arrives, you are constantly reminded, as you stroll through the mall and see the stores enticing you with red and pink decor, specials for that someone special and restaurants reminding you to make reservations for the big day, seemingly reserved for the romantic among their clientèle.

According to Certified Stress expert Rick Allen, the day doesn’t have to be filled with anxiety; it can be a day just as enjoyable as any couple may have. Here are some stress busting tips for singles that may not be looking forward to the upcoming Valentines Day.

One thing to keep in mind is that Valentine affections don’t have to be directed to just the romantically involved.

Treat yourself to a nice dinner; even take in a movie you’ve wanted to see. Go on splurge and get that buttered popcorn or favorite candy treat. Running by the video store, grabbing a flick and ordering in doesn’t count

Book an appointment at a spa; go all out, after all you deserve it.

Don’t care to go it alone, try these ideas;

Spend the day sharing your platonic affections with a friend, a sibling, children or the elderly you can derive a great deal of euphoria enjoying the day with friends or family members.

Keep in mind; many single groups have activities planned that you may enjoy attending.

Have flowers or a special gift sent to you; after all you are pretty special. Oh go ahead splurge a little, go a little wild, and indulge in a special treat just for yourself.

Hey, don’t forget to include that pampered pet; you know the one who is there when no one else is. Why not include them in your plans for the day.

If that’s not enough, then try some more traditional de-stressors, such as doing some yoga exercises, take a mental vacation, even self-hypnosis has been found to be very effective in getting you over the SAD period.
