PRLog (Press Release) –
Feb 06, 2008 – ATLANTA – Former NBA star Mike “Stinger” Glenn, a curator of rare books and original documents, will showcase a segment of the Mike Glenn Collection, “The Liberated Life and Turbulent Times of Frederick Douglass” at the Douglas County Public Library, February 9 – 29, 2008.
“I am very pleased to see this exhibit showcased in Douglas County,” says County Commissioner Freddie Ashmon, “Frederick Douglass embodied beliefs that are important to the success all Americans. His philosophy was to believe in yourself, take advantage of opportunities to excel, and use the power of spoken and written word to create positive change for our society.” Glenn surmises that the understanding of history is a means to gain insight into today’s culture and to help us prepare for the future. He believes, “One can not adequately comprehend 19th century America without reflecting on the words, thoughts and deeds of Frederick Douglass. As one of the giants in American history, Douglass influenced the anti-slavery movement, was a staunch supporter of women’s rights, and was a trusted advisor to Abraham Lincoln.” Since 1998, Glenn has used his collection to stimulate literacy and learning, promote tolerance through understanding, and develop an appreciation for American and African- American History. The Douglas County Library is located at 6810 Selman Drive, Douglasville, GA 30134. Call 770-920-7125 for hours of operation.
