According to data from the Ministry of Tourism and commerce the increase of tourist spending in Murcia has risen 30% over last year.And is a substantial increase as the national average increase for Spain is 3%. The data also shows that number of visitors to the Murcia Region are up by 18% and the national average of visitors to Spain is 2.1%. San Javier has also seen an increase of passenger traffic by 23%. In addition Cruise liners visiting the port of Cartagena are up by 20% and hotel occupancy for one night stays is up 16.5% again again the national Spanish average of 2.2%. The ministry is expecting a health increase again for 2008. as they are promoting the region as an international destination for tourist. This is highlighted by the constant encouragement for more flights to San Javier airport from the UK,France and Germany.
