Feb 05, 2008 – “Bowen’s solution, developed in conjunction with our staff, will improve the efficiency of our city’s water supply system and its ability to serve the needs of our community without the need to find additional funding sources or raising water utility rates,” said Keith Reeves, Director of Utilities. “The improvements also will allow us to maintain our sewer system more cost effectively and offer the highest quality of service to our water customers.”
Using a Guaranteed Savings Program allows the Utility to use a one-stop shopping approach to the project and take advantage of the Guaranteed Savings and Costs to reduce the risks associated with other procurement methods. This approach allows the Utility to put more dollars into construction and less into paperwork.
Bowen will start the work immediately and be substantially complete within twelve months. The $2,468,000 project includes a state-of-the-
art variable speed pumping for the high-service pumps, extensive electrical rehabilitation for the plant, back-up electrical generation, and two miles of cured-in-place liner for a neighborhood with a history of sewer related issues. This modernization project reflects a continued effort of the administration of the utility to provide superior service to the community using innovative programs while being good stewards of ratepayer dollars.
David Wrightsman, Bowen’s Environmental Solutions Team Leader, said, “This is another tremendous project Bowen has developed for an Indiana Utility. We’re honored to be able to serve the Utility and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the utility operations for the citizens of Columbus. Using this approach not only reduces costs, it also increases the sustainability of the community’s infrastructure which is a win-win solution for everyone.”
