Venture capital firms invested $543 million in 98 deals in India last year, new data has revealed.
Investment from the sector surpassed the figure of $500 million in 94 deals during 2006, according to figures from Venture Intelligence and US-India Venture Capital Association (US-IVCA).
The lion's share of the inflows went to the information technology and IT enabled services sectors, which attracted total investment of $377 million across 65 deals, the Economic Times reports.
Among these online services were the favourite sector and accounted for just over 30 per cent of the investment.
Sudhir Sethi, director of US-IVCA and managing director of IDG Ventures India, said: "With strong interest among limited partners in both the VC segment as well as India as a destination, the resurgence in early-stage investments is likely to be sustained going forward as well."
Other sectors garnering large investment were healthcare, life sciences and media and entertainment.
