Norte announces a Request for Proposals for the 2008 Summer Art Colony in Portobelo, Panama.

With the 2008 Colony taking place June 16th to June 30th, Taller Portobelo Norte (TPN) has announced a Request for Proposal from artists of all disciplines and media

Noteworthy visual and literary artists and scholars such as Henry Drewall, Imna Aroyo, Opal Moore, Robert Pruitt, and Jaki Shelton Green have all had one thing in common.  They’ve each participated in the Taller Portobelo Norte Summer Art Colony in Portobelo, Panama.  With the 2008 Colony taking place June 16th to June 30th, Taller Portobelo Norte (TPN) has announced a Request for Proposal from artists of all disciplines and media.  The goal of the residency is to support artists whose work stimulates ideas and expands artistic boundaries and conventions in realizing works-in-progress and new work. The deadline for applications is Friday, March 7th, 2008.

Founded in 1997 by Dr. Arturo Lindsay, a Panamanian born artist and Professor of Art and Art History at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, the TPN Summer Art Colony in Portobelo, Panama has attracted artists, scholars and students from throughout the country interested in the visual and performing arts and cultures of the African Diaspora, ethnographic and anthropological research, Spanish and Latin American Studies, and responsible and ethical tourism.  The residency takes place at the Taller Portobelo compound in Portobelo, Panama, which consists of three guest houses and a small gallery and workshop.

About Taller Portobelo Norte - Taller Portobelo Norte is a collective of emerging and established artists and artist/scholars that seeks to encourage critical dialogues around the art and culture(s) of the African Diaspora, create a cross-cultural, intergenerational, multidisciplinary exchange of ideas and inspirations among artists, and create a supportive space for artists, writers, and scholars to experience communal intellectual stimulation as well as quiet contemplation.
