San Ramón, located in the western Central Valley, was recently recommended by “We Love Costa Rica,” www.welovecostarica.com, as an area up and coming for retirees and baby boomers. Author of the article, Jeffrey Hickcox, wrote, “Two local developers have collaborated on designs, infrastructure and construction work ensuring that Magallanes continues to be the "higher quality" residential area for San Ramón. “ CR Communities, one of the two companies referred to in the article, is teaming up with another local developer to provide San Ramón’s first community club house with membership first opened to those residing in Magallanes. It will include a gym, spa, tennis courts, pool, upscale restaurant and bar area for a social ambiance that promises to be unique and fun for its members.
San Ramón, a town of about 70,000, boasts conveniences many retirees are seeking in their move to Costa Rica. Excellent medical facilities, a major hospital, modern shopping mall with a 3-screen movie theater, many supermarkets, restaurants, and a variety of services for home construction are available in this growing area. The town also has the only branch of the University of Costa Rica in the Central Valley outside of San Jose. Between the university and a cultural center and museum, a variety of entertainment options exist. The climate in San Ramón is excellent due to its higher elevation at about 3400 feet, with springtime weather year round and temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees. Only 40 minutes to the international airport near San Jose and 35 minutes to the Pacific Ocean, San Ramón is convenient to many of the country’s most notable tourist attractions and outdoor activities.
With real estate prices in most towns on the Pacific Coast and even several in the Central Valley have become out of reach for many people, San Ramón still offers reasonable, investment-level prices for most North Americans considering retiring or living part-time in Costa Rica. At CR Communities’
